Pete had a fun two-week camp this year called "Summer in the Arts". It was at Heritage High School in Leesburg. His classes were violin, guitar, drama, and video production.
On Saturday, July 9 the family got to see all of his performances at the school. Nana, Poppy, and Sarah came also. Luckily Grandma and Grandpa were in town also, but they weren't able to wake up early enough to make it to the performances
Pete's first performance was violin. The group played about 4 songs:
Next it was Pete's guitar class. Pete was the only one who played without using the music stand. They played "Eleanor Rigby" and "Hey There Delilah":
Then it was off to the auditorium for Pete's drama class. After a spirited warm-up, they did a scene from Oliver Twist. Pete played Noah Claypool. The student who was supposed to play Mr. Sourberry didn't show up, so right before they started the teacher said "Pete, you know what to do". (Pete was the stand in for all parts in the play, since he had memorized everyone's lines). So Pete played both parts in the scene:
In the picture above, Pete is reciting one of Mr. Sourberry's lines, which is "[grasping Oliver's chin] Look at his most unusual face. He has an expression of melancholy which is very delightful for a coffin follower at children's funerals."
Last it was off to the computer lab to see the results of Pete's video production class. He had a bit of an unfair advantage in this class, due to his experience. We will cover this in a separate post.
After the performances, everyone headed over to Greene Turtle for lunch. Then they met Grandma and Grandpa back at the house and went to the Lakes Pool.
